Cavani DKW in The Classic Motorcycle

The Classic Motorcycle, Issue #2 (February 2010, Volume 37, Number 2) has an excellent little piece by James Adam Bolton entitled Best of Both Worlds:  "The crux of the matter," Bolton writes, "is that the DKW motor was manufactured in Germany, and the rest made in Italy - in a Frankenstein meets Bella Lugosi Italo/Teutonic marriage made in Bologna, the resulting motorcycle is a successful match of the Latin good-looking and compulsive, and the precise, measured engineering of the Germans.  It rides very nicely too."  The author goes on to point out the "massive disruption of the war and it's after affects" on the motorcycle business, and how that "forced a period of huge creativity and ingenuity in Italy between 1945 and 1955."  It's a smart looking little machine; the article is highly recommended.
